Stonecliffe is a small collection of stylishly well-appointed, luxury apartments in the heart of the English Lake District National Park.

Blessed with high ceilings, spacious rooms, full height windows and a raft of original Victorian features, Peregrine is the perfect place to escape with friends or family.
The Master bedroom features a free-standing deep bath positioned to enjoy a long indulgent soak. The 2nd bedroom has comfy Hypnos beds which can be arranged as a flexible twin or a gorgeous super king. The keenly designed, well-furnished living room features loads of space to lounge, relax and socialise. The large, well-equipped kitchen and dining area contains high spec appliances and is designed to provide lots of room for making evening meals or enjoying breakfast together.
Bright and spacious, Curlew retains lovely original features which reveal Stonecliffe’s history. This design-minded space is furnished to a high standard and adorned with modern and contemporary fine art and photography.
Relax in the comfy, contemporary living room, curl up with a good book by the stove in the Rock Room, sleep like a king or queen in the Well Room on the comfy Hypnos beds configurable as a flexible twin or a gorgeous super king. Our mission is to merge the building’s distinct heritage with contemporary style for all to enjoy – chic, comfortable and luxurious spaces inviting guests to return year after year.
Stonecliffe is the creation of a young family who hails from Windermere and further afield. We have a passion for hospitality and a keen love of the Lake District National Park.
Stonecliffe takes its name from the rocky Lakeland slate ledge on which it was built circa 1850 by the celebrated Pattinson family. It began its history as a guesthouse around the time the railways brought a budding tourist industry to Lakeland.
We developed the property in 2017, naming its apartments after well-known birds from the area which we have enjoyed spotting on our local walks. They have been carefully designed by Judy Deakin of Form Interior and artfully curated by our in-house photography historian and arts consultant. All apartments feature emerging and established artistic talent from the region.
Stonecliffe is conveniently located in the heart of Bowness-on-Windermere in the English Lake District National Park. It is within walking distance to restaurants, pubs, bars, coffee shops, supermarkets, bakeries, shops, trails and the waterfront.
You can easily arrive at Stonecliffe by car via Junction 36 off the M6, or via public transport. Trains are frequent; Windermere is served with a mainline connection at Oxenholme Lake District. Visitors change trains at Oxenholme Lake District from the West Coast mainline to the Windermere branch line. Taxis are available from Windermere station. Estimated journey time from the train station to Stonecliffe via car is 8 minutes. The apartments at Stonecliffe are less than a minute’s walk from the nearest bus stop, Royalty Cinema, served by routes 6, 508, 555, 599 and 755.
